Brett Somers Of Match Game Dies - Wills Of The Famous

Whether you watched the original airings of the Match Game or currently enjoy them on GSN you no doubt saw several episodes with the entertaining Brett Somers.  She has been battling cancer for the last few years and died this past Saturday.

Born Audrey Johnston according to the Associated Press she changed her name to Brett after reading "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway.  If she wasBrett_Somers_1950s.jpg anything like the character Brett then she must have been quite a handful.

Hearing of her death I got to thinking about how many of the wealthy and famous don't do very much estate planning.  While many do there are quite a few that have put their heirs in tricky predicaments.  Having a will is one thing (here are some famous wills) but putting together a living trust and having life insurance in place is another.

The estate-planning world is a complicated one but for the wealthy it can prove dangerous to their significant others.  Of course maybe heirs should make their own living and wealth, but that's another conversation.

This thread also leads me to think about the life insurance inheritances that some celebrities have been leaving to their pets recently... Leona Helmsley recently left $12 million to her Maltese dog. She did a lot of good with her money, too, but does that seem excessive to anyone else?
