Lake Tahoe California Fire Might Surpass $100 Million In Insured Losses
The Lake Tahoe fire is finally contained after causing damage to over “300 buildings and almost 3,100 acres” according to National Underwriter.  Tahoe hasn’t seen this magnitude of fire damage “in over four decades.”

According to risk modeling firm Risk Management Solutions “the insured losses from the wildfire will run between $100 million and $150 million.”  The figures are even more devastating when you consider the cause of the fire.  According to an article on Mercurynews.com “A U.S. Forest Service investigation identified the cause of thelake_tahoe_fire.jpg destructive blaze as an illegal campfire built in a campfire-restricted area, authorities said.”

Have they found the people who started this illegal campfire?  I can’t understand how the person or people who started the fire can go on living without feeling physically ill.  What a burden to carry the rest of your life.

Truly, the costs (human, ecological and in terms of insurance moneys) are staggering. It is unbelievable that careless people can destroy so much of their surroundings like this. Apparently, individuals feel free to just ignore the messages that Smokey Bear has been selling for decades? Rather depressing stuff, indeed.
