An astonishing “39% of people with diabetes receive the basic recommended services across the nation.” This stat is in comparison to the states “with the highest levels of health insurance ownership” that have “about two-thirds of low-income people with diabetes receiving the basic recommended services.”
These basic services are truly the most basic services I can think of for diabetics. The services consist of blood screening, foot exams and eye exams. Of course if a person doesn’t have health coverage it’s likely they’re not going to even get the most basic check-up.

THAT is basic care for someone with diabetes? I would consider that substandard, at best... although better than nothing. With the disease as rampant as it is, and the potential health risks it leads to as serious (and expensive) as they are, I would think that insurance companies would fall all over themselves to give excellent management (AND preventive care). But maybe that makes a little too much sense?
