The tiny little problem is that community colleges are “required by law to provide health insurance to their employees.” So regardless of how the colleges pay for it canceling health coverage isn’t an option.
Community colleges receive funding from three main sources; “student tuition and fees, taxpayer dollars and state funding.” Therefore if one leg is taken out the other two have to do some extra work. Taxes are going up or students are going to feel a pinch when registering for classes.
Of course if the governor decides to give more money to the colleges then all will be solved. Although, it sounds like the governor is coming from a different perspective.
“The governor's office claims the reason for the veto is because community colleges often overestimate their health insurance costs. But the SPC president thinks it was merely an oversight by the governor.”

The governors claim of overestimation of insurance costs by community colleges is hopefully an oversight. For the benefits of students in Texas hopefully the governor will have a change of heart and lead the way regarding the importance of education.
