The State Of Louisiana Has 1,800 Spots For Residents Denied Health Coverage
There are some openings in the state of Louisiana for people who’ve been rejected for health insurance as a result of health problems according to National Underwriter.  This “high-risk health insurance pool” currently has 1,800 openings that are “available on a first-come, first-service basis.”

You must have lived in Louisiana for the previous six consecutive months and need to “supply written denials of health insurance coverage due to any medical condition.”  In addition “you cannot be eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or group health insurance.”

The added zinger is that if you qualify for the coverage any pre-existing conditions are not covered for the first six months and “the risk pool does not cover mental health or routine maternity care.”  But I suppose those few lucky enough to qualify for the program will be happy just to have coverage.  To learn more about the program you can call (800) 736-0947.

I would be fascinated to learn how the great state of Louisiana funds the health insurance coverage of these 1800 individuals. Good for the people who so desperately need that coverage, at any rate, and I hope it leads them to better health down the road!
