Take Steps To Secure Your Disability Insurance Claim Payments
It goes without saying that dealing with an insurance claim can be one of the most frustrating experiences in the modern world.  Insurers want to do everything within their power to not have to pay the claim and you just want to get your money.  Disability insurance claims are no different and can be detrimental to the claimant.

An article on Marketwatch.com by Marshall Loeb delves into the disability claims process and offers ways to make sure you secure your claim.  An important step to take if your disability insurer thinks you can go back to work is to “ask you insurance company to allow an independent medical exam” according todisability_claim_coins_cart.jpg Consumer reports.

Another option is to contact your state insurance department so they can “review your claim and the policy language to render an unbiased verdict – and it can ask your insurer to pay up.”  Many state insurance departments take little guff from insurers and often set them straight in claims cases.

Another important part of helping your claims cause, especially if the insurer is delaying the process is to “keep meticulous records.”  Always get the name of the insurance rep you speak with, “take notes about what was discussed and actions taken.”

Does anyone have any further tips or advice about the disability claims process?

A claimant has the Right to inspect per the IRISA act. I'm supposed to be getting all records and info from the insurance co. on my claim--they send it by mail. My question is this: shouldn't a claimant have access on the internet to said Insurance Co.'s files and records in there data base concerning their claim? It seems to me it would be the only way to hold them accountable on all the info concerning the claimant. Lord knows that insurance companies rank right up there with the used car salesman.
