Birthday Insurance: Unique Idea For Grandparents & Grandchildren
There seems to be insurance for every conceivable thing in this world and now we can add Birthday Insurance to the mix.  Thanks to a post over at InsureBlog I found out about a truly unique idea for grandparents to leave for their grandchildren or even great-grandchildren.  The program was created by Commemorative Life Insurance Services Inc.

AfterThoughts Birthday InsuranceSM guarantees that, after your death, each named grandchild will receive a birthday card from you on his or her birthday, along with a check -every year for the rest of his or her life.  So, many years from now, when your grandchildren have grandchildren of their own, they will continue to receive a greeting card and check that brings back loving memories of your relationship.”

The insured can even pick the amount of money to include in the annual cards $100, $250 or $500.  The program is funded by a permanent whole life policy.  The cards and money will keep being sent to the grandkids or beneficiaries for the remainder of their lives!  I like the idea for its originality but don’t you think it’s a bit odd to receive a card and money from a long deceased grandparent?

What is your take on this type of insurance?  Would you like to be the recipient of a card and money from your grandparents for the rest of your life?

I have to say, it seems a little strange, to me. I mean, insurance for birthday cards? What will this lead to, Christmas present insurance? Yikes.

Jerry,

Yes I was surprised by this type of insurance. I think there are people hired by insurers to pontificate on the untapped insurance opportunities still lurking around.

If only the card being sent to the grandchild could be altered to say "Listen to your Mother!" or "I told you if you kept making that face it would stick."
