Nationwide Insurance, Super Bowl XLI and K-Fed?

As I’m sure you have already become more than aware of Kevin Federline, past hubby of Britney Spears will be in a Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. ad during this weekends Super Bowl XLI.

I honestly know very little about Federline other than his relation to Spears.  Apparently he is a budding rapper with a recently released album that didn’t fair so well.  Other than the fame Federline has garnered from being married to Spears I can’t imagine why Nationwide choose him.spears_federline.jpg

An 80-year old company with $157 billion in assets, 35,000 employees and over 16 million policies in force has put their money on the Fedster.  Was there a bidding war among the insurance giants for his current fame or dare I say his acting skills?  He’s no dummy for taking the opportunity to make some serious money, although I’m sure he’s not hurting from the divorce settlement.

Nationwide’s slogan for the ad is “Life comes at you fast” with the implication that you should grab an annuity from Nationwide for your future.  What demographic are they speaking to with this ad?  Are you going to feel motivated to purchase an annuity from Nationwide or think of Nationwide as a funny company and therefore worthy of your investment dollars because of the ad?

While were on the subject of the Super Bowl.  Bears or Colts?
