North Dakota Insurer Pays $50,000 To Resolve Theft Of Policyholder Info
A unit of insurer Humana Inc. (HUM), Louisville, Ky., in North Dakota “has agreed to pay $50,000 to resolve regulators’ concerns about the theft of policyholders’ data” according to nationalunderwriter.com

Apparently there were “two separate incidents of theft” where thieves were able “to access Social Security numbers, bank routing numbers and other personal financial information for 126 North Dakota residents who have Medicare drug coverage and other coverage with the insurer.”

I can’t imagine what other “personal financial information” was left once the thieves had possession of SSN’s and bank information.  If someone had stolen my bank info and social I would care little about other information they could have gotten their paws on.

Aside from the $50,000 payment to the North Dakota Insurance Department “Humana has agreed to provide credit monitoring services for 1 year for every affected customer who wants credit monitoring services” and also “provide an additional year of monitoring for customers who experience any irregularities in their credit reports.”
