Insurance Tidbits: Medicare, Retirement Readiness, Pension Protection Act
I came across these three short insurance news tidbits that could be of use to consumers and employers.  Considering they each don’t warrant a single post I have decided to include them all in this one post.

Medicare:

America’s Health Insurance Plans has teamed with drug store organizations to develop a Web site for consumers interested in Medicare prescription benefits. http://www.healthdecisions.org/guide

Retirement Readiness:

A financial services company is using a Web tool to get Americans to think about the future.  Nationwide Financial Services Inc. (NFS), Columbus, Ohio, has posted the new RetirAbility Check calculator at http://www.nationwide.com/nw/nrri/index.htm?wthpa=retirability1

The calculator generates an “R-Score” rating, or retirement readiness rating, and gives users personalized suggestions about ways to improve their scores, Nationwide says.

Pension Protection Act:

A retirement services vendor has published an employer guide for the new federal Pension Protection Act.  Principal Financial Group Inc. (PFG), Des Moines, Iowa, has posted the guide and a compliance timeline at http://www.principal.com/ppa

Some of the many provisions of the PPA will change defined benefit plan funding rules, encourage automatic 401(k) plan enrollment programs, and create the DB(k), a plan that will let employers combine 401(k) plans with defined benefit plans.
