Delta Dental Plans Injects Reality Check Into Negative Affects Of Halloween Candy
The Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) released a cautionary press release about the perils of modern food on our teeth.  Apparently Halloween candy should be the least of our worries when faced with daily food options according to insurancejournal.com.

Sugar has been the culprit when it comes to tooth decay and cavities as I’m sure we are all well enough aware of.  If you do not know how cavities are formed like it or not I’m about to let you

If not removed by brushing or some other means, naturally occurring bacteria in the human mouth form a colorless, sticky film called plaque. Cavity-causing organisms within plaque feed on sugar and turn it into acid. This acid attacks tooth enamel and causes tooth decay.

Max Anderson, DDS, a national oral health advisor for DDPA, stated the obvious by saying “To help keep teeth healthy, we need to be aware of what we eat and take care of them all year long, and not just worry about candy and Halloween.”

The article compares the amount of sugar in Halloween candy and other year round foods, such as frozen waffles, two frosted strawberry toaster pastries and a fruit punch flavored juice box.  Am I the only one thinking that the aforementioned foods should either never or rarely be given to children?

I think certain cereals, fruit, toast, oatmeal or other healthier alternatives will better serve children than sugar filled items.
