California Consumer Warning Of Faxed Discount Health Insurance Offerings
If you receive unsolicited offers through fax then beware of a health insurance offer currently showing up in fax machines statewide.  The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is warning consumers through a press release on their website of discount health insurance being offered by Prime Med Care or Prime Star Health Care through fax blasts.

The companies and their owners, Jesse Casares and Joe Casares of Houston, Texas, are not licensed to sell insurance in California.  The following is the fax copy being sent:

“New Health Plan” and “7-day OPEN ENROLLMENT with NO HEALTH QUESTIONS” for the Medical, Dental and a “$10-$40 MAX-PAY PRESCRIPTION CARD” at “ONE LOW PRICE” which “COVERS INDIVIDUAL OR ENTIRE FAMILY.”

Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi said, “We are warning consumers that if they have paid for insurance provided by Prime Med Care, Prime Star Healthcare, Jesse or Joe Casares, they may find they have no coverage.  These companies are not licensed to sell health insurance, and consumers should not purchase insurance from any of these individuals or companies.”
If you have purchased insurance through these individuals or companies the CDI asks that you call Senior Investigator Chris Lewis at 916/492-3432.  I assume most people that receive unsolicited faxes for medical plans do not respond, it is generally not a good idea, but if you are considering finding out more about the plan then check the CDI website first at www.insurance.ca.gov or call the CDI Consumer Hotline at (800) 927-HELP to make sure the company is licensed to sell insurance in the state.
