In an article on www.tennessean.com a couple, Tim and Michele Ray, are hassling with State Farm over a crack in their foundation. The Rays say the crack was not there before the tornado because they used the downstairs room frequently and would have noticed the damage.
Even though the Rays received a preliminary estimate of $140,000 to fix the home State Farm sent a $36,773 check and claimed “it was ‘impossible’ that foundation cracks in their 23-year-old home were caused by the tornado.” Needless to say the Rays returned the check un-cashed.
Technorati Profile
iLuckily for the couple Michele Ray was a former State Farm manager for 12 years. She paid for a structural engineer to examine the house. The engineer said, “that the cracks could have been caused by the tornado.” Because of the engineers report State Farm sent a check for $82,078 but are still denying the foundation claim.
State Farm is reviewing the claim again and hopefully for the Rays they will receive a check that is more inline with the actual cost to repair the damage.
