Property-Casualty Insurance Industry Large Part Of U.S. Economy
The American Insurance Association released a report on the impact of the property-casualty insurance industry on the U.S. economy according to nationalunderwriter.com.  The report reveals the p-c industry employs over 580,000 people and pays $34 billion in wages and salaries.

Not too surprising that the top five states “providing employment for the property-casualty sector are California, Illinois, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania.”  Despite these large numbers there are still “hundreds of thousands of jobs in agencies, brokerages, reinsurance and other insurance-related services” that were not included in the report.  AIA used data from the 2004 Census Bureau for their

Some other impressive numbers from the report:

  • P-C insurers reimbursed Americans nearly $94 billion in private passenger auto losses.
  • P-C insurers compensated homeowners for more than $35 billion in insured losses.
  • P-C insurers paid $131 billion in commercial insurance losses.
