Florida Bicyclists Get Pushy With New Law
If you are a driver in Florida make sure and watch out for bicyclists around you not only for their safety but also for you own pocketbook.  According to insurancejournal.com a new law was passed regarding passing a bicyclist.

This new law “requires motorists to give bicyclists at least a 3-foot gap when passing.”  The previous law used the words, “pass safely” according to Dennis Scott of the Florida Department of Transportation.  Scott also said about the 3-foot clearance law, “that distance is a minimum.”

If you are caught driving too close to a bicyclist then under this new measure motorists “could be charged with a moving violation subject to a fine and points assessed against their driver’s license.”

I am confused as to how the police will know if a motorist is three feet, two feet or two and a half feet away from a bicycle?  I guess the police will have to carry mental measuring tape with them at all times.
