A practicing dentist in Huntington, N.Y. said he has “seen several patients who have traveled outside the United States for dental work to places like Germany, Pakistan and Italy.” Of course as I know living in Southern California and as the article mentions many people cross the U.S. – Mexico border to seek cheaper medical care for dentistry and other medical services.
If a person doesn’t have health insurance the price difference between the U.S. and other countries can be a clear-cut case. However, according to the article if you do have insurance “your provider may still pay for any procedures done out of the country, depending on what type of plan you have.”
One important consideration in regards to getting medical care in another country is the issue of liability. United States procedures to help patients out if something goes wrong during treatment do not apply in other countries. Common sense and a little research will come in handy when deciding if treatment in another country is a good idea.
