New York Life is helping schools in its hometown through its affiliated foundation. The foundation is “giving $459,000 to United Activities Unlimited, New York, to fund after-school and evening technology and academic enrichment classes for students attending 3 middle schools on the north side of Staten Island, N.Y.”
While Guardian Life announced the deadline for its seventh annual Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Award Program is February 16, 2007. The program is part of the Guardian’s Women’s Initiative and recognizes teen-age girls who demonstrate exceptional entrepreneurship. The scholarships range from twelve $1,000 awards to a $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000 award.
Adults should submit essays explaining why a particular girl deserves a scholarship and then “a panel of judges will award scholarships to nominees who have demonstrated entrepreneurship or financial acumen; have taken the first steps toward financial independence; make a difference in their schools or communities; and show potential for future success.”
More insurers should get involved in helping children realize their potential. I will post any other insurers I hear about who are contributing positively to their communities.
