Texans Fight Against Insurance Companies One Year After Hurricane Rita
In an article on theexaminer.com they illustrated the frustrations Southeast Texans are still having with their insurance agencies one year after Hurricane Rita hit.  As residents continue to rebuild they feel that are receiving little help from the insurance companies.

Many residents have seen flood insurance disappear followed by windstorm protection slowly waning while premiums remain the same.  A gathering of disgruntled residents was held this week by an Austin-based organization called Texas Watch.  Texas Watch is a consumer advocacy group of around 9,000 people.

Some of the issues aired during the meeting included the confusion of “’what makes a home unlivable?’ and only being offered a fraction of actual reparation costs.”  One of the biggest problems for residents has been the term “wind blown rain” that to them seems to have been invented for Hurricane Rita sufferers.

Texas Watch handed out Activist Training Kits that will help residents contact elected representatives.  You can visit www.texaswatch.org or call 1-888-738-4226 for more information.
