Nicole Mahrt, spokesperson for the American Insurance Association, said, “We will ask the governor to veto it” and that “50 other parties are objecting to the bill.” The specifics of the bill include the “extension of the number of weeks workers’ compensation will pay for a disability based on the rating for that particular injury.”
The AIA feels, according to Ms. Mahrt, “that any action to change benefits should await completion of a California Division of Workers’ Compensation study of the state’s permanent disability rating system, which is underway now.”
Steve Suchil, assistant vice president for the Western Region of AIA said, “The state study underway now would analyze return-to-work rates, ‘so we will have an accurate and complete understanding of how the reforms have impacted the system.’”
The insurers don’t want to have to pay more than is absolutely necessary for any specific injury. Once you are healed you should not suck the insurers dry by receiving more payments. My guess is Arnold will veto the bill.
