West Virginia Home Inspectors Must Have Certification & Insurance
As a way to combat fraud against consumers West Virginia home inspectors now are required to be certified by the State Fire Commission as of August 1 according to insurancejournal.com.

Home inspectors must pass the National Home Inspection Exam for certification as well as finish 16 hours of continuing education a year and obtain liability insurance coverage of at least $250,000.  In addition the law “also sets a minimum list of items each inspection must cover, including the foundation and structure of the house, electrical system, plumbing, roof and eaves, chimney and fireplace, heating and cooling system and more.”

If a home inspector has a business license it does not necessarily mean he/she is properly trained and certified for home inspections.  This new West Virginia state law “follows the guidelines of the American Society of Home Inspectors and the National Association of Home Inspectors.”
