In addition West Bend Mutual will also “encourage its policyholders to install KiddieVoice™ by offering a premium discount to those who do.” KiddieVoice™ works in the following way:
Once the KiddieVoice® alerting message system has been activated, it can only be deactivated by the driver’s walking to the rear interior of the vehicle and manually depressing the cancellation button.
During this walk to the rear of the vehicle, the driver is prompted to check each seat for occupants. A secondary visual inspection is automatically accomplished as the driver returns to the front of the vehicle to exit.
Chel Buttchen, NSI supervisor of Childcare and Personal Appearance Programs, added, “in addition to a discount in the purchase price of KiddieVoice™, NSI would provide an auto liability premium credit to those policyholders that offer proof of installation on all vehicles used for transporting children.”
Aside from the financial benefits of participating in this promotion it seems to make sense that all school buses should have this system in place. I for one am amazed school buses still do not have seat belts despite the assumed precautions and safety taken by the driver.
