All CA Licensed Insurance Agents Must Complete New Ethics CE
If you are a CA fire and casualty broker-agent or life agent you are now required by the California Department of Insurance (DOI) to complete a “four-hour “ethics approved” course each renewal period starting Jan. 1, 2007” according to insurancejournal.com.

In addition all “personal lines broker-agents are required to complete a two-hour course every license term.”  The positive aspect of these new requirements is they do not increase your total continuing education hours but simply requires that at least four of your hours must be in an approved ethics course.

There is no need to panic or worry about enough time to finish these new hours because they only apply to “all agents and brokers whose license term expires on or after Jan. 31, 2007.  Logically if your insurance license was already renewed this year and you take the new ethics course now that class will count toward your 2008 renewal.

In order to obtain an insurance license in California you must complete 12 classroom hours of ethics.  Until now continuing education hours could be done in any subject just as long as you completed your hours.  They must either be seeing an increase in agents not conducting business in an ethical manner or are trying to nip any future problems in the bud.
