Survey Says Pennsylvania Seniors Drinking & Driving More
According to a press release for the 2005 Pennsylvania Youth Survey Report by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency more 12th grade students are binge drinking and driving under the influence than in past years.

The survey is conducted every two years and “measures the prevalence of substance abuse and violence among 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grade students statewide.  The survey is voluntary and anonymous, and asks students approximately 120 questions regarding their behaviors and attitudes toward substance abuse.”

The 2005 study asked more than 14,300 randomly selected students from urban, suburban and rural schools to participate.  That seems to be a decent swath of the high school population assuming the representations were equal or close to equal.

The results for drinking and driving were the following:

Almost 24 percent of 12th graders admit to driving after drinking, which is an increase from previous years. Twenty-three percent of the students admit to driving after smoking marijuana.

Twenty-four percent seems to be a high number for this type of stupid activity.  I wonder what the reasons are for the increase in this number compared to past years?  There are always going to be high schoolers drinking and driving but a quarter of the 12th grade respondents seems
high.
