Mississippi Increases Insurance Values For Homeowner Grant Amounts
Post-Katrina construction costs have risen but recent news from insurancejournal.com reports an “increase by 35 percent insurance values used in calculating homeowner grant amounts.”

This change is in light of the realization by officials of the Mississippi Development Authority that the “majority of homeowners are underinsured in comparison to inflated construction costs.”  The rest of the elements of the grant will stay the same including the $150,000 cap.

This change is effective immediately for all applicants and allows “undecided homeowners another chance with the new award amounts.”  Federal benefits such as pensions and disabilities are not affected by this grant.

Over 16,500 have already applied for the Katrina Homeowner Grant Program.
