Minorities & Women Hold More Management Jobs In Finance Industry
The U.S. Government Accountability Office “published figures on trends in management-level diversity and diversity initiatives in the financial services industry.”  According to nationalunderwriter.com “Women and minorities held about 53% of management-level jobs at U.S. financial services companies in 2004, up from 48% in 1993.”

Some of the not too surprising results included:

  • White men held about 46% of managerial jobs at insurance companies in 2004.
  • Insurers ranked last in terms of employment of minority men as managers. Only 5.4% of insurance company managers were minority men in 2004.
  • 7.5% of insurance company managers were minority women. Minority women held more than 10% of the management posts at banks and other credit institutions but fewer than 6.5% of the management posts at investment companies, investment trusts, security and commodity brokerage firms.
  • Almost 41% of insurance company managers were white women.

It seems there is a slow but steady increase of minority representation in the financial sector.  Just as it took a long time for white women to ascend to managerial positions it will take quite a while for more non-white managers to show up.

Looking at the 2000 census numbers there is a big misrepresentation of minorities in management positions.  White Americans make up 75 percent of the population meaning a non-white representation should be closer to 25 percent.  Assuming everyone had equal access to education and opportunities that should be possible.
