California Initiative Introduces Path To Insurance Career
If you are interested in starting a career in the insurance industry then the California Insurance Careers Program (CA-ICP) could be an option.  This statewide initiative brings together 17 community colleges, 9 workforce investment boards, 30 businesses, employer associations and the K-12 system.

The necessary insurance industry knowledge for traditional and online training programs will come from both the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West and the Insurance Educational Association.  Rockridge Partners, a workforce development specialist, will help provide professional program management.

Starting this fall four to six community colleges, with Solano Community College taking the lead role in managing the CA-ICP, will begin offering the insurance specialization courses.  The first wave of courses will include:

INS 1: Introduction to Insurance

INS 2: Code and Ethics
INS 3: Insurance Internship (paid)
INS 21: Property/Liability Insurance Principles
INS 22: Personal Insurance
INS 23: Commercial Insurance

Students who successfully complete these six courses will receive a degree/certification that will qualify them for entry-level employment within the insurance industry.  As an incentive for this program a survey was conducted of over 2,500 employers, 98% indicated that this training would provide a significant hiring advantage for program participants.

The insurance industry within California is such a monster with so many opportunities for growth and advancement that taking advantage of this program could prove worthwhile in the long run.
