This week proved to be a busy one in the insurance scamming/fraud business. They kept piling up as the week went on. Even a police officer could not keep his hands out of the insurance candy jar this week.
- Montana Wire Fraud - Myron "Mike" Felt admitted defrauding 23 insurance companies and other business and state governments with a scheme to keep farmers' insurance premiums.
- Louisiana Auto Insurance Fraud - Two Baton Rouge, La., men and a Donaldsonville attorney face charges of conspiring to defraud an insurance company of $100,000, according to the Louisiana State Police.
- California Auto Insurance Fraud Ring - Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi announced today the indictment of 25 suspects in connection with a major insurance fraud investigation dubbed “Operation Cashout.”
- Teens Arrested For Arson - It will cost more than $1.3 million to repair Western Kentucky University's Cherry Hall, which was damaged by an arson fire April 23. Four teenagers were charged in Bowling Green, Ky. with arson in connection with the fire. The teens, all 15 and all from Bowling Green, knew each other and participated in varying ways in setting the fires.
- $3 Million Insurance Fraud - Steve Edwards of Durham, N.C. has been sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison in an insurance fraud case that left North Carolinians with unpaid workers' compensation and health insurance claims estimated in excess of $3 million according to Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.
- Kansas City Insurance Fraud - Insurance agent Darrin Noah of Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced to two years' probation in Washington County District Court for defrauding two elderly brothers in Haddam, Kan.
- NJ Cop Sentenced In Chop Shop Insurance Fraud - A former Hillside, New Jersey police officer has been sentenced to one year in jail and barred from public employment for taking part in a chop shop insurance scheme.
