Rhode Island Governor Carcieri Vetoes 24 Hour Proof Of Insurance Bill
Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri vetoed legislation that would have given RI drivers 24 hours to produce proof of insurance after they are stopped by a police officer or involved in an accident.

This legislation does not make any sense to me.  Why would someone draft the bill to give drivers 24 hours to provide proof of insurance?  There must be some logic behind the legislation.

Carcier agreed with me writing that the “insurance bill creates an unnecessary and burdensome increase in administrative paperwork for law-enforcement agencies.”  Of course as in California if the driver does not have proof of insurance when asked by a police officer the person can provide that proof of insurance in court.

Any ideas why someone would suggest this type of legislation?
