The data was collected from over 7,000 providers within “athenahealth’s athenaNet® system database to rank national and regional health insurers according to specific measures of financial and administrative performance and medical policy complexity.”
Some of the highlights from the rankings:
- The average number of days a claim is in accounts receivable among national payers is 38.
- Multiple state Medicaid programs are taking more than 100 days to pay athenahealth claims. The two worst performing states are New York and Indiana, which average 119 and 171 days, respectively.
- Medicare offers greater transparency to physicians, as all of its reimbursement policies are published and publicly available.
Seems to me our wonderful health system might need an overhaul or at least some major repairs.
