Over 2 Million Sign Up For Medicare Part D
The numbers have come in for Medicare Part D sign-ups following the May 15 deadline.  Over 2 million people signed up bringing the total enrollment to over 90% of Medicare beneficiaries as reported in nationalunderwriter.com.  Including the new enrollees the total number of Medicare members exceeds 38 million.

Those Medicare recipients who missed the May 15 deadline will have to wait until January 1 to enroll.  Current beneficiaries are being treated to “lower than expected average premiums because of strong competition among Medicare Part D plans offered by private insurers.”

The monthly premiums for 2006 are projected to average $23 as opposed to the July 2005 projection of $37.

That is great news for Medicare beneficiaries who by and large need any cost break possible.
