The scholarship program was created “four years ago to reward talented students, encourage excellence and offer a financial incentive that helps ease the burden of paying for college” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty community relations manager.
Any financial assistance for students will help considerably when faced with 5-7% annual education cost increases. In 10 years a year at public and private colleges will cost on average $18,489 and $49,204.
The scholarships were awarded to eight dependents of the company’s employees, eight to dependents to staff employed at the company’s Premier Partner Agencies and four to students in states where the company has offices. The criteria for winning the scholarship consisted of:
- Consideration of past academic performance and future potential
- Leadership and participation in school and community activitiesWork experience
- Career and educational aspirations and goals
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
- An appraisal from a non-family member
This is great news for the students and a great example for other insurance companies.
