For English World Cup Fans Preparation Is Key
We here in the U.S. are not only way behind on catching World Cup fever but we certainly do not have a website like this, fco.gov.uk, preparing us for the World Cup.  The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Of England has a web page devoted to tips, suggestions and information for preparing and traveling to Germany, this year’s venue for the World Cup.

Surprisingly the FCO estimates more people will face problems such as, “lost passports; lost money or credit cards; people getting injured or having accidents and not having travel insurance or an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to cover the cost of any treatment they receive” versus “drunk and disorderly fans getting thrown in jail or getting into fights.”

They recommend travelers get Travel Insurance to cover you for everything you intend to do, a photocopy of your passport, apply for a EHIC to receive the same treatment in German hospitals that German nationals do, and research your destination.

The FCO even produced an “Avoiding Penalties info-card - A credit-card sized fold-out information pack, full of useful information including key advice for fans, local map and emergency contact numbers.”

Even after the U.S. National Soccer Team made it to the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, a phenomenal achievement and possibly the biggest U.S. sports accomplishment in history, our nation continues to not appreciate the world of soccer/football/futbol.
