
Some of these chronic conditions include heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and asthma. Other factors are studied including “prevalence rates, Medi-Cal enrollment, ethnicity and income status.”
Some of the findings include:
- More than six million adults age 18 or older (23.5 percent) reported being diagnosed with hypertension.
- Nearly half of the 1.7 million California adults reporting a diagnosis of heart disease are age 65 or older.
- Nearly 40 percent of adults reporting "fair" or "poor" health status visited the doctor six or more times compared to 14.6 percent of adults in better health.
- Sixty percent of the adults reporting "fair" or "poor" health status were low income.
