Aon Consulting Studies Employer Offerings Of Consumer Driven Health Plans
The human capital consulting organization of Aon Corporation, Aon Consulting, conducted a nationwide survey of 434 employers regarding Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHP) and released the results on their website www.aon.com.  Currently 28 percent offer a CDHP compared to 22 percent in 2005 in an “effort to continue providing quality healthcare coverage, while controlling costs and introducing consumerism.”

Speaking to the relative newness of CDHP’s 75 percent of employers began offering the plan in 2005 or 2006.  The rest of the employers not yet offering the plan need more time to “learn from experiences of other employers before deciding to offer one.”

The overall satisfaction with these types of plans reached 90 percent due to employers “seeing a reduction in healthcare cost increases.”

A spike in usage of health savings accounts (HSA) and health reimbursement arrangements (HRA) occurred over the past year.  Of the employers offering an HSA, “62 percent make contributions and of those 17 percent contribute less than $500 per person, 37 percent contribute $500 or more and 8 percent match each employee’s contribution.”

Does your employer offer a CDHP and how recently was the plan made available?

If you are participating in an HSA or HRA are you satisfied with the plans?
