A father and son in Southern California were arrested and booked into county jail for alleged workers compensation fraud. An employee of one of their two car washes was cut severely when his hand was caught in the “wheel of a moving car.” He was rushed to the hospital but then coerced into saying he was injured at home so as not to use the workers compensation insurance of the business. To make a long story short the hospital workers were able to get the truth out of the injured man. I severely cut my finger while working a job and was taken to the emergency room. The workers compensation insurance covered the injury and I had no problems with my employer. My experience clearly illustrated to me the importance of not only workers comp insurance but employers taking responsability for their workers. I can’t imagine the father and son actually thought they would get away with this fraud.
As an employer your first priority should be taking care of your employees. Although I am not shocked by this case I am still amazed at the selfishness.
Have you or anyone you know been involved in workers comp fraud?
