Weekly Insurance Scammers Exposed: 1st Installment
I have decided to start a new weekly installment of insurance scammers to help you the consumer. This information is to assist you in being more aware so as not to fall prey to an insurance scam.  Insurance fraud and the like are occurring all over this country involving all types of insurance products.  I want to do all I can to help prevent you and your loved ones from being duped.

I will list the offense and some basic details about what happened with a link to each case.

  • Forged Checks - Two men from Syracuse, N.Y. were charged and arrested in connection with a forge check scheme. “The investigation that led to these arrests was commenced in October, 2003 when a NYSIF check in the amount of $14, 480 was presented at a credit union in Syracuse. The check could not be traced to a claimant bearing the name of the payee on the check. A second check, bearing the same check number was also presented, raising the suspicions of NYSIF and law enforcement authorities.”
  • Bicycle Courier Scheme – Eight owners of a Massachusetts based company indicted on 50 felony insurance fraud charges. The eight owners were “charged with one count of conspiracy to commit premium fraud; six counts of premium fraud; and 43 counts of filing false injury claims in a scheme totaling more than $600,000 in losses from the San Diego District Office of State Compensation Insurance Fund.”
  • Forgery and misappropriation of insurance premiums - An Evangelina, LA insurance producer was accused of forgery and misappropriation of insurance premiums.  “The DOI noted that its Fraud Section had received complaints against the accused alleging she had forged and altered insurance documents. She is also alleged to have received premium payments, which she did not properly remit to authorized insurance companies, and to have conducted the business of insurance with an unauthorized insurance entity.”
  • Unbelievable Insurance Scam - “Los Angeles police are investigating two women in their 70s who they believe hatched a scheme to offer two homeless men shelter, then collect more than $2 million in insurance policies after they were killed in hit-and-run crashes.”
