Break Traffic Laws On Federal Properties? No Problem
In Maryland an oddity in the traffic laws are allowing judges to “dismiss routine traffic violations at military bases, hospitals and research centers” according to insurencejournal.com.  These judges are acquitting drivers with suspended licenses and even “throwing out every traffic citation on their docket” in one case.

If you are driving on a “secured road in and around gated installations run by federal agencies” the likelihood of you ducking a traffic violation is significant.  “In federal court, judges must apply state traffic laws when no similar federal law exists” states the online article.

I found this to be a very interesting tidbit of information.  Although not specifically insurance information I though all us drivers could use this to our advantage next time we are driving through or near a federal agency, hospital or research center.  I’m not advocating breaking the traffic laws but don’t worry so much if you are speeding a little or are caught making a rolling stop in these areas.  The judges have your back.
