California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi Speaks Of Protection Against "Flood Peril"
The past few weeks California was ankle high in rain up and down the coast.  Northern California was especially soggy with Sacramento most susceptible to flooding because of the potential levee breaches along the Sacramento Delta.  You can listen to a report on kpcc.com about the levee situation in Sacramento.

California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi on April 20th urged homeowners and businesses to protect themselves against potential flood damages.  The article stated "Standard homeowners insurance policies do not offer coverage against flood damages, and flood insurance policies are not effective until 30 days after the date of purchase."  Not a good situation to be in if your home or business is in the path of potential flood waters.

Flood insurance is required in most areas at risk for flooding but because of newer house and business develpments some areas are not yet required to have insurance.

If you or someone you know is in danger of being in the path of a flood, flood insurance is available through a licensed insurance agent or the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  The NFIP can be reached by calling (800) 427-9662 or visiting their website at www.fema.gov/business/nfip.
